Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 cups white sugar
- Beat In
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 4 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted in microwave
- 1½ cups flour
- 1½ teaspoons salt
- 1½ cups walnuts (optional)
Instructions
Cream together shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla, followed by melted chocolate. Mix in flour and salt until fully incorporated. Stir in walnuts, if using. Drop onto cookie sheets and bake at 325° for 10-12 minutes.

- This is a sweet, delicate cookie. It is very fudgy, especially if you make it without nuts.
- This cookie spreads out into a thin wafer if it is light on flour. You probably need a little more than the recipe says.
