Mix
- 1½ cups water
- 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
Slice apples and arrange them in a metal pan. Pour liquid mixture over the apples. Then spread one box of cake mix over the apples. Drizzle with ½ cup melted margarine, and sprinkle 1 cup chopped walnuts on top.
Bake until golden brown, about 45 – 50 minutes. Take cake out of oven and cool for 15 minutes.
While the cake is cooling, heat ½ cup vanilla ready-to-spread frosting with 1 teaspoon of margarine over medium heat, stirring constantly until it is a smooth, pourable consistency. Drizzle over cake. Serve warm or cool.
Glenda’s Secrets of Success
- The recipe calls for Betty Crocker Supermoist apple cinnamon cake mix. I don’t think they make that anymore, so I prefer to use a spice cake mix. You can also just use a vanilla cake mix and add cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. You don’t need to prepare the cake batter – just open the bag of powdered mix and pour it over the apple mixture.
- The recipe calls for just 2 apples. I use at least 4, and as always with apple recipes, the type of apple you use will affect the taste.
